Mexican Train Dominos and Other Fun Family Games

Posted by Julie Hellstrom on November 14th, 2008

Growing up, I loved it when our family game time came around. We’d all gather around the table with snacks and drinks and play Hearts. Those times have a special place in my memories.

Those were good times because of the way it pulled us all back in as a family. My husband also had a similar experiences in his family so we both were in agreement that we wanted to continue this tradition with our family.

The problem we soon found was how to find games that everyone could play. With an age span of 7 years, our 15 year old was not so keen in playing Go Fish all the time, nor could our 8 year old play Risk. How do we solve this dilemma?

The Survey Says - The Solutions

So you weren’t really expecting me to not have a few ideas here, were you? I do. Starting with the game we learned on our last family vacation - Mexican Train Dominoes. We all could play it together - important with the size of our family - and it was fun. Plus the dominoes rules for Mexican Train aren’t hard to learn. We did find after buying the inexpensive game that the rules in the game were not the same as the ones we learned. Find the “Hellstrom” domino rules on the website listed below.

Along with our Mexican Train dominos game, we found Apples to Apples. This game too can be played by all of us at the same time and we liked that it came in a junior version that was still fun for the older kids.

And for Christmas last year, Grandma bought a tile game called Blokus. It does involve some critical thinking skills, but our 7 yr. old was able to pick it up right away. It is only a 4-player game.

These are great Christmas gift ideas and birthday present ideas because they are inexpensive and they don’t involve technology. Which means more time to talk and laugh together! What good Christmas gifts!

Basic Guide To Bonsai Ficus For beginners

Posted by davey cruzz on November 10th, 2008

Bonsai ficus is very easy to keep, maintenance wise they require little, and are very unusual in looks compared to other bonsai trees.Being easy to keep, the bonsai ficus is a good starter for beginners.

Species Worth Trying.

You will find growing a bonsai ficus can be a very enjoyable and simple task, as long as you pay regular attention to the proper care of it, this way you will start to learn about the basics of caring and growth as it develops. There are 3 worth trying initially, and they are the weeping ficus, the narrow leaved ficus, and the dwarf ficus.

Humidity And Temperature.

Many ficus have thick waxy leaves, which allow them to tolerate extremely dry air. Fortunately ficus are really not to dependent on humidity and will grow well in a range of humidity levels. If you are growing your bonsai ficus outside for the summer remember to bring them back in as night temperatures get near 55 Fahrenheit.

Ficus Propagation.

Propagation of your bonsai ficus is simple and easy, as ficus in general will root from cuttings very well, just puting a cutting in soil is enough to have it rooting soon, but then you may already have plenty of ficus babies.

Roots Of Ficus.

A lot of ficus will naturally grow banyan roots, so this feature is used often with the styling of bonsai ficus with the air root and the root over the rock type styles, using superthrive, on a monthly basis will help in the forming of the banyan roots.

Ficus Seed growing.

Another way of getting stock to make your bonsai ficus is seeds, though this is harder to do than through cuttings, seeds from ficus need heat and of course humidity, but the seeds can easily fall foul of mold.

Watering Ficus.

When it comes to watering your bonsai ficus, remember ficus like dry intervals between watering, by allowing the soil to dry, and you will know this just by feeling the soil regularly, and then watering, you should not have over watering problems. Autumn and winter can be a time when you may see leaves dropping or turning yellow, if you see this then its very possible the plant is being over watered.

General Thoughts.

Learning about the basics of caring for your bonsai ficus will encourage you to want to know more, and to keep other types of bonsai trees, both indoor and out door.

Thanksgiving Gifts & Baskets Are The Absolute Best.

Posted by Toni Young on November 7th, 2008

Thanksgiving is a big holiday within the United States. Because it is a national holiday, many workers get paid time off, while most schools close for 2 to 5 days. Thanksgiving is considered a family holiday, and is usually celebrated by family groups getting together and preparing a huge meal for everyone to eat.

The meal on Thanksgiving is elaborate with turkey being the special item along with mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, other vegetables and pumpkin pie. People travel long distances to spend time with their families and spend the day watching parades and football games. Children have a nice time and have a blast on this day.

Exchanging of gifts is associated with thanksgiving. There are numerous gifts available in stores, which provide the buyers with choice about the item and the price. There are different types of Thanksgiving gifts which can be given to friends and hosts like food items, sweets, gift baskets, snacks & munchies, fruits, flowers, flowers and plants, kitchenware, gift boxes, cookies, flower bouquets, meats & sausages, chocolate, arts & crafts etc.

It is always important to consider the preferences and interests of a person when giving them a gift. Some people like flowers, and for those people, a fancy bouquet makes a very nice gift. Some people don’t like flowers because they don’t last very long, and for those people, a plant in a lovely pot might be a nice alternative.

There are different kitchen items like a beautiful and unique salt and pepper shaker, personalized thanksgiving platter, unique set of plates, unique glassware, designer tableware, personalized magnetic holiday frames, electric knife set with carving fork and case, pretty buffet warmer, professional carving set, or turkey fryer kit which can be gifted on thanksgiving. You can choose an item and purchase it from stores or online from various sites selling these items.

Chocolates and cookies are in high demand during festivals and if the family has young children, then this gift will be appreciated by all. There are various kinds of chocolates and cookies sold in stores in individual packs or together with other goodies. Cakes too are highly in demand during festivals and you can carry a cake from the popular cake maker in your city.

If you have trouble finding a specific, individualized gift, you might be interested in purchasing a Thanksgiving gift basket instead. There are many types of baskets available, both in stores and online. The most common and popular gift baskets are filled with food and treats to share amongst your family.

Foods contained in the gift basket include appropriately themed fall items like apple cider, cheddar cheese, summer sausage, grained mustard, rye bread, gourmet coffee, cheese popcorn, mix of snacks, cookies and lots of kinds of chocolates. You can search online or in stores for a basket that meets all your needs.

Simply Beautiful Hampers

Posted by Steven Jones on November 5th, 2008

UK hampers are gifts that are usually presented in a wicker basket. The act of giving a hamper has a long tradition in the Western world and, before, was done as a noble act, using the hamper to present food and other home necessities to the poor. The basket the hamper was presented in was also carefully chosen as it was a helpful household item that could be used and reused.

In recent times, UK hampers have come to be less presents of necessities and more presents of little treats, such as wine hampers for example. An emphasis is placed on premium products such as gourmet jams, expensive chocolates, exotic coffee beans, quality wines and other expensive products that can be had as a indulgence and will keep long enough for your special someone to relax when using the item.

There has also been a growing fashion to make specialist hampers - wine hampers that are full with a diverse range and types of wine, chocolate hampers and bread and cheese hampers. Hobby hampers are an even more modern development and are packed not with food but with helpful and desired items to please gardeners or DIY enthusiasts, for example. The contents of a hamper are only restricted by your imagination!

The adaptability of UK hampers is why it makes such a wonderful present. They can be modified to any person and can be packed with whatever would satisfy the recipient. When choosing the hamper you want to give, give careful attention to what things the recipient wants - are they a red wine lover? Then wine hampers are a great idea! Are they a gourmet? Then fill the hamper with premium food products. Are they expecting a baby? Why not give them a hamper filled with handy baby products.

UK hampers can be given for any event - for birthdays, for hens nights or bachelorette parties, for weddings, for anniversaries, for an expecting mom-to-be and, most popularly, for Christmas.

The Xmas hamper has become popular and, in an intriguing twist, customers are buying Christmas UK hampers to use for themselves instead of as a gift for other people. Often packed with well-loved Xmas treats such as shortbread, chocolate, wine, Xmas pudding and even turkey, they are bought by families to be used over the Christmas period. Many hampers are bought on a payment plan over the year and then used for the Christmas period, helping families pay for the cost of the well-loved Xmas treats desired over the Christmas period.

There are lots of businesses that specialize in supplying hamper presents and most of them can be found quickly and simply on the net. Many of them will have pre-packed hampers - such as wine hampers or food hampers - and some may allow you to modify a hamper and pack it with products of your choice. Many businesses will deliver your hamper, making it a convenient and welcomed gift.

Of course, you don’t have to use a business to create a beautiful hamper and it can be even more thoughtful to make your own. When creating a hamper, give careful thought to what they might like. Use handy products and luxury products that the recipient may not consider to purchase for themselves, to make it even more lovely. Hampers also work best when packed with products that won’t spoil quickly, such as red wine for wine hampers. If you do intend on filling in products that have to be kept cool or will spoil, then make sure the hamper is given as soon as possible and make sure the recipient knows that the goods must be used as soon as possible.

Electric Mobility Scooter

Posted by Timmy Gold on November 4th, 2008

When we are young we imagine we will live forever and we think we can achieve anything. As we get older we learn that there are limits to our abilities and as we get older still we discover that our bodies are not always as stong or as able as they once were. It is all part of life’s rich experience but as we get older we have to accept the limitations our bodies place on us. We have to accept but we can also adapt and contiue to enjoy life the best we can and this is where a mobility scooter can really come into it’s own and help us to get on with enjoying life.

Life is full of limitations. When we are young our parents stop us doing things and when we are married it’s our responsibilities that prevent us doing things. As we get older we may find our bodies are not able to get us about as well as they used to and a mobility scooter starts to look like a good option. They can be expensive but used mobility scooters make a good investment.

This does not mean that the a potential buyerl needs to wait until they have more money to get help. Rather, they can choose to invest in a used mobility scooter as opposed to a brand new one. There are many reasons as to why this would be beneficial, including the fact that it obviously saves the money. Many people will also find that they are able to get the used mobility scooters more quickly as compared to ordering a new scooter simply because they do not need to save up so much money as a used mobility scooter may be half the price of a new one.

If you buy a used mobility scooter it takes less time to save because you need to save up less money, for a product that is most likely in just as good condition, or near it, as a new mobility scooter. Many people may realize the advantages of buying used but are unsure where to go looking to find a good used mobility scooter. The simple truth is that there are practically lots of places to search in order to find the used mobility scooters you are looking for. Choosing a used scooter over a new one will not limit the selection that a person will be able to consider as much as you may think. There are plenty of online sites and online auctions that offer used mobility scooters for sale.

Buying online is very popular since the access to the World Wide Web allows you to see mobility scooters for sale from all parts of the country. If you would rather buy locally you can still do this online or you could look at local thrift stores and have a look in your local newspapers and magazines where you may find people selling their used mobility scooters. If nobody is advertizing then you could publish an advert yourself stating that you are looking for one and you may find somone who has a used scooter they no longer need.

What to look for in a Reliable Car Insurance Company?

Posted by Steven Clayton on October 25th, 2008

Choosing the right car insurance company can be a bit of a challenge, especially since there are so many different ones available today. No doubt you want to make sure that the company you choose will offer you the service you need and be there for you when you need to make a claim. Well, there are a variety of things to keep in mind when you’re trying to pick out a car insurance company that will be reliable and can meet all of your needs. So, here are a few important things you may want to keep in mind when making your final decision.

How good is the customer service provided?

Before utilizing services you want to take a thorough look at the customer service. You do not want an insufficient amount of customer service. Ask people that have had experience with a company about the level of customer service provided. To find out about customer services check for complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau. You will be assisted with finding out about the reliability and the customer service offered this way.

Look at Their Financial Strength

If you are looking for a company to provide auto insurance that is going to be reliable it is vital to look at the financial stability that the company has. The Standard & Poor’s rating is a place where this information can be easily found; it will help to get a look at the financial situation of the company that is being considered. Filing a claim and discovering there are not adequate funds available to pay it by the company is not a situation that you want to find yourself in. Don’t go with a company that has a Standard & Poor’s rating lower than a BBB and you should be sure that they are sound financially.

Do a rate comparison

Of course price is also going to be something to look at as well. Wondering how the price lets you know whether a company will be reliable? Well, companies that are going to offer great service and be reliable for you are going to offer you prices that are competitive. If a company has prices that are sky high and much higher than most of the competition, you have to wonder why their prices are so high. So, price can be something important to consider as well.

These are three of the most important things that you should keep in mind when you’re looking for a reliable car insurance company. If you look for great customer service, financial strength, and competitive prices, you’ll be sure to find an excellent company that will meet all of your car insurance needs.

Business Gift Baskets: Perfect for Any Occasion

Posted by navneet maheshwari on October 21st, 2008

In recent years, the gift basket has steadily increased in popularity as people have discovered how easy it is to give gift baskets, and how much they are appreciated by their recipients. A company can also customize these gift baskets according to the occasion and budget. Business gift baskets can be filled with chocolates, coffee hampers, cookies, wines, champagne, caviar and so forth. Gift baskets may comes pre made, but they are personal gifts given that come from the heart and work great for any occasion.

One of the reasons they are so popular is because of the choice they offer the recipient. A business house may award business gift baskets to its employees on special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries and holidays, or as a token of appreciation after a promotion or at the time of retirement. That variety means that any one item that won’t be used will be eclipsed by many more that will be. Some businesses occasionally send gifts baskets to their associates and clients, either to promote their products or merely as a goodwill gesture. While one gift given to a finicky person may not be successful, someone with the most discerning taste will find something in a gift basket that will delight them.

Many times gifts have to be bought for a family or other group of people and for these occasions, gift baskets are ideal. One should always follow certain conventions while sending gift baskets to clients, and take into consideration the etiquette and corporate policies followed by the client company to avoid unnecessary hassles. There is no search for many individual gifts, and there is no worry that everyone won’t appreciate one shared gift. Most gift suppliers also design theme-based gift baskets, like exotic fruit baskets, wine baskets, cabernet and cheese baskets, gourmet baskets, chocolate baskets, sweets and snacks baskets, and so forth. Gift cards and single gifts for groups limit the amount of personalization and choice for the recipient, but gift baskets are the one item that offers both.

There is no need to search out appropriate gifts for holidays, new babies, or any other occasion because with a gift basket, all the work is already done. , before sending a gift to the client, one should ask the client directly or contact the personnel department to find out about the limitations and guidelines followed by the company.

Gift baskets today come in selections to appeal to countless different types of people, with many types of interests and hobbies, and at any stage of life. An appropriate business gift or gift basket can truly boost an employee’s morale and can also help cultivate positive business relationships. Whatever occasion comes up, there is sure to be a gift basket made just for it.

Free classified ads or online classified ad syndication?

Posted by Natalie Grey on October 17th, 2008

The last few months online classifieds seem to not be working as well. I don’t know if it is all my ads being removed by people flagging them or if classified ad page views have gone down, but my ads are not working as well as before. I have decided to try ad syndication found over at stumblehere.com classifieds. I will give it a unprejudiced review.

What is online classified ad syndication? Well, Stumblehere.com now provides an amazing online service that enables you to make professional-looking classified ads. These ads are then posted for you so you do not have to make multiple postings yourself. How much is your time worth? How long would it take your staff to post 100 local classified ads?

What this means is stumblehere.com saves you not only money but time too. The power comes from entering your ad only one time. After that they do all the work listing your ad in online marketplaces, classified directories, RSS feeds and the top search engines. And this is all done rather quickly, usually within 42 hours or less.

Wow, so I can actually get traffic to my ad? I don’t have to spend time posting it 1000 places? I don’t need to repost them every day due to being flagged wrongly? Sign me up!

I am gonna test out the betterpost ads. Since I am relatively new to the web, I am excited to try their walkthrough and have my classified ad built for me. Then as part of the betterpost process the ads will have full syndication. I will let you know all my results on how thier process works.

The best way to explain betterpost is - An ad upgrade feature, for 7.99 you build a professional and attractive ad and then stumblehere.com syndicates that ad for you. They place and syndicate your classified ad for you so you do not have to make multiple ad postings yourself!

Right now stumblehere only offers betterpost in their vehicles section. I am going to test it out. I need to sell my car anyways. Stumblehere is offering 85% off through the end of October 2008 for anyone who wants to beta test their betterpost ad syndication product. Simply enter ‘halloween’ all lowercase in the promo code box after posting your ad.

Wow ummm so I can test this out for only $1.20? I think I can afford that test. I placed the ad and paid my buck. My Ad is gorgeous. No really, it looks fantastic, not boring like most classified ads.

First time for everything, my first time paying for aclassifed ad online. It has been 10 hours and I have not heard anything. I wonder if this will really work? I decided to go back to http://www.stumblehere.com and research it more. Their site says classified ad syndication can take up to 36 hours. I guess I will have to do some waiting.

After waiting awhile I got my first call from my betterpost ad. They really liked the ad and that was a lot of what they talked about. It caught their eye.

The next morning I had 2 emails about my car. And later that day call number 2 came in off my syndicated ad. Is this classified ad syndication stuff working? I need to set up times for people to look at my car.

Now for some results after 7 days. 9 emails and 6 calls, not to shabby. To all the naysayers, I know classified ad syndication works!

Tribal Belly Dancing

Posted by Paul J Eastwood on October 14th, 2008

There are a great many styles of belly dance. It is natural that any form of dance that has lasted as long as belly dancing would evolve into a lot of different styles. Culture and history has done many things to the art form, but it is still belly dancing regardless of the influence. Tribal belly dancing is one such style.

There really is no authentic form of tribal belly dance. It is a combination of many different styles that have been influenced by the different ethnic groups that practice them. It is typical that dancers improve on dances by adding elements of other styles in their own routines. This is how tribal belly dancing was created.

Is it Authentic?

There is very little information on the origins of belly dancing. This is why there really can be no true answer to the authenticity of tribal belly dancing. There may very well have been a time when tribal dancing was practiced, but there simply is no record of it in history.

What we do have with tribal dancing is a dance that has been influenced by many different styles. Dancers will take aspects of Turkish dance as well as Moroccan, gypsy and anything else they would like to adopt in their routine.

Costumes

Because there is no authentic tribal dance there is also no authentic tribal costume. Many people choose to create their own costume based on what they believe tribal dancers may have worn. They are typically a one-piece costume instead of the standard two-piece belly dancing costume.

The tribes of the ancient cultures inspire the costumes. This type of inspiration is particularly appropriate for tribal dance costumes. It allows the dancer to wear a costume that she deems appropriate and feels comfortable enough to dance in.

Tribal dancing is usually a very fast paced dance. The dances of Egypt and Turkey are a slower and more sensual performance. Tribal dance is frenetic and energetic. There can also be singing and clapping added to the dance routine if the dancer feels inspired.

The music for tribal dance is usually in keeping with the style. You won’t find much use of the classic instruments in tribal routines. This style of dance is a free expression for the dancer. She is able to add elements at her whim and dance how she feels. A dancer can do some research on the ancient forms of dance, but she is still able to incorporate modern movements and add them to the old.
